Practice session in Hungary sees Norris achieving a "double podium" finish

In the thrilling qualifying session of the Hungaroring Grand Prix, the race for the top spots was fierce and unpredictable.

Oscar Piastri, the current leader of the 2025 Formula 1 drivers' championship, maintained his position, but was closely pursued by his fellow McLaren driver Lando Norris. Piastri completed the session in eighth for Racing Bulls, while Norris managed to outpace him in the second session, recording a best lap of 1 minute and 15.624 seconds. Norris ended the session in a respectable fourth place, albeit 1.167 seconds behind the pace-setter.

However, the session was not without its drama. Max Verstappen, the four-time champion for Red Bull, found himself in 14th place, 1.167 seconds off the pace. The Dutch driver described his car as "undriveable" and faced a likely investigation into his disposal of a cloth towel during the session, which was caught on camera. Verstappen's teammate Yuki Tsunoda managed to improve his position, finishing ninth, a tenth faster than his previous session.

Charles Leclerc, driving for Ferrari, finished third, trailing by nearly four-tenths. The British driver George Russell was seventh for Mercedes, while Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso secured fourth and fifth places for Aston Martin. Kimi Antonelli completed the top ten for Mercedes.

Notably, the positions of Max Verstappen, Yuki Tsunoda, Lando Norris, and Oliver Piastri after the third session are not yet clear. Verstappen was filmed throwing a cloth, or towel, from his cockpit, which is expected to lead to a stewards' investigation.

As the race approaches, the battle between Piastri and Norris promises to be intense, while Verstappen will be hoping to mount a comeback in the race itself. The Hungaroring Grand Prix is set to be an exciting affair.

Sports enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the Hungaroring Grand Prix race, following the thrilling qualifying session. The fierce competition between drivers was evident, with positions such as those of Max Verstappen, Yuki Tsunoda, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri yet to be finalized due to potential stewards' investigations.
