Practice session at Silverstone concludes with Leclerc in first place, session interrupted by late red flags
In the third and final practice session for the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc showcased an impressive performance, setting the fastest time of the day with a lap of 1:25.498.
Leclerc, driving alongside team-mate Carlos Sainz, outpaced McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finished in second and third places, respectively. Piastri managed to steal P1 from Lando Norris by a mere four hundredths of a second, while Verstappen was just 0.019 seconds behind Piastri.
The session was punctuated by two red flags, the first due to Oliver Bearman's Haas shedding a piece of its floors, and the second when Kick Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto spun off and his suspension broke in the gravel trap. These interruptions resulted in the session ending with four minutes remaining.
Despite the stoppages, several drivers had a positive outing. Yuki Tsunoda posted a lap of 1:26.104 to take fifth place, while Oliver Bearman finished in sixth spot ahead of Williams' Alex Albon, George Russell, and the RB pairing of Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson.
In the early stages of the session, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes could not join the top four and finished in 11th place with a lap time of 1:26.332. At one point, Hamilton had the fastest time with a lap of 1:27.351, which he later improved to 1:26.529. However, Ferrari's Leclerc and McLaren's Piastri maintained their lead throughout the session.
