Practice incident results in calf injury for Browns' K Andre Szmyt
In a turn of events that could potentially impact the Cleveland Browns' upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers, starting kicker Andre Szmyt has sustained an injury to his left calf during practice on Friday.
Szmyt, a 26-year-old rookie, made his lone field-goal attempt and both point-after-touchdown (PAT) attempts in the Browns' game against the Baltimore Ravens. However, he missed an extra-point try and a 36-yard field goal in the Browns' season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Szmyt felt something in his calf during practice on Friday. Despite the concern, Stefanski has stated that it is premature for discussions about bringing in another kicker.
The Browns are currently 0-2 in the season and are seeking their first win. They will be facing a Green Bay Packers team that boasts a 2-0 record.
In addition to Szmyt's injury, the Browns have listed guard Joel Bitonio (back), receiver/returner DeAndre Carter (concussion), and right tackle Jack Conklin (elbow) as questionable for Sunday's game.
As of now, there is no publicly available information about who would replace Szmyt if he is unable to play against the Packers. The Browns will undoubtedly be hoping for a speedy recovery for their kicker, as they strive to turn their season around.
