Vietnam and Malaysia Fortify Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

In a notable development, the political alliance between Vietnam and Malaysia has witnessed a significant boost, with both nations committing to bolster their parliamentary cooperation. This was evident during the meeting between Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament, in Kuala Lumpur on September 19.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed to enhance high-level and committee-level delegation exchanges, as well as engagement between women and young parliamentarians. They expressed satisfaction with the positive and substantive progress in their bilateral relations of late.

Chairman Man extended congratulations to the Parliament and people of Malaysia on their 68th Independence Day (August 31) and 62nd Malaysia Day (September 16). He also appreciated Malaysia's robust economic growth and effective governance, with the country's GDP growth reaching 5.1% in 2024, the highest in the past 12 years.

In a bid to fortify their relationship further, both sides agreed to share information and experience in building and improving legal frameworks, creating favorable conditions for implementing new areas of cooperation under the recently established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also agreed to work together to address illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to create favorable conditions for the European Union (EU) to lift its "yellow card" warning on Vietnam's seafood exports.

The bilateral relations were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Party General Secretary Tô Lâm's visit to Malaysia in November 2024. Both sides also agreed on the need to further strengthen political trust and soon carry out the 2025-2030 Action Programme for the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Speaker Johari bin Abdul appreciated the significance of Chairman Man's first official visit to Malaysia. Both sides also agreed to foster people-to-people exchanges, particularly among the younger generation, to strengthen the friendship between the two nations and contribute to the ASEAN Community.

In addition, the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Malaysian Parliament will continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums such as AIPA, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), among others, contributing to maintaining a peaceful, stable, and developing environment in the region and the world.

However, it is worth noting that the name of the Malaysian Parliament Speaker who met Tran Thanh Man during this official visit is not explicitly stated in the available search results.

As the two nations continue to fortify their ties, the future looks promising for this burgeoning Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
