Power Outages Persist as Warm, Dry Weather Continues

Power outages have persisted across Northern Colorado following recent severe weather. As of Sunday morning, thousands of residents remained without electricity, with Boulder County facing the most widespread disruptions. Recovery efforts are now fully managed by local city and county teams after the Boulder Office of Disaster Management closed its operations on Saturday afternoon.

The Boulder Office of Disaster Management officially shut its doors at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 20. The decision came as recovery work shifted to standard city and county operations. Meanwhile, Boulder County still reported 94 active outages, leaving around 8,867 customers without power.

In Larimer County, progress has been made, with most Poudre Valley REA customers regaining electricity. Only nine households near Buckhorn Road and County Road 38E remained affected. However, one larger outage persisted, impacting about 943 customers.

Weather forecasts suggest favourable conditions for ongoing repairs, with dry skies and above-normal temperatures expected through Christmas Day. Residents needing urgent help have been advised to call 911. For non-emergency support, local electric providers remain the primary point of contact.

Additional recovery details, including guidance on charging stations, debris removal, and food safety, are available at www.boulderodm.gov. Xcel Energy customers can also track outages via the utility’s interactive map.

While most areas see gradual improvements, Boulder County continues to face the highest number of outages. Officials urge affected residents to stay informed through local news and utility updates. Recovery resources and real-time outage information remain accessible online for those still without power.
