Power Brokers on Stage: "Johann Holtrop" Performance at Düsseldorf Theater

In a captivating blend of theatre and satire, Cologne director Stefan Bachmann is set to reprise his 2021 production of "The Realm of Death" and present a new adaptation, "Johann Holtrop - Demolition of Society", at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus.

The premiere of "The Realm of Death", a spoken opera described as 'crazy' and drawing from reality to expose the grotesque, saw Dr. Johann Holtrop, a character from a 2012 Goetz novel, reduced to his essence for the stage. Melanie Kretschmann portrays Dr. Holtrop, donning an azure blue suit, with legs apart, wheat-blond hair, and a radiant smile.

Following "The Realm of Death", audiences can expect another thought-provoking performance from Bachmann. "Johann Holtrop - Demolition of Society" is a satire about the fools of economic power, with Dr. Johann Holtrop as the anti-hero. Cennet Rüya Voß plays the shady financial advisor Mack with a small mustache and Rhineland joviality, while Ines-Marie Westernströer portrays Thewe, a character who is feeble, unimportant, old, and plays both Holtrop's accomplice and attractive wife.

The duration of "Johann Holtrop - Demolition of Society" is two and a quarter hours, with no intermission. Sven Kaiser composed the music for the play, harmoniously setting the rhythm for Rainald Goetz's text. Lea Ruckpaul plays PR consultant Leffers, navigating the vertically stretched threads of the stage set, and the chorus of the cleaning ladies in the play has lyrical prose through verse-like emphasis.

Live music plays throughout the performance of "The Realm of Death", featuring strings and piano. Rainald Goetz, the author of "The Realm of Death", is a renowned German author known for his provocative and satirical works that often explore themes of social critique, media culture, and perceptions of reality.

Tickets and information for "Johann Holtrop - Demolition of Society" are available at www.dhaus.de. The next performances of "Johann Holtrop - Demolition of Society" at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus are on March 17, 30, April 4, 26, May 19, and June 12.
