Potential starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers may take the field against Missouri due to a head injury recovery.
South Carolina Gamecocks' Quarterback LaNorris Sellers Questionable for Game Against No. 23 Missouri
South Carolina's star quarterback, LaNorris Sellers, is making progress from a head injury sustained in the game against Vanderbilt last Saturday. Sellers was ejected from the game after being hit by Langston Patterson of Vanderbilt, who was called for targeting.
Sellers' status for the Gamecocks' visit to No. 23 Missouri on Saturday remains uncertain. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer has not definitively stated Sellers' status, but his policy is that players who don't practice on Tuesday and Wednesday won't play in the game.
If Sellers does not practice on Tuesday or Wednesday, sixth-year senior Luke Doty will start against the Tigers. Doty, who stepped in for Sellers against Vanderbilt, was 18-of-27 passing for 148 yards and one interception.
In three games this season, Sellers has passed for 431 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, and has also rushed for a score. Last season, in the 2024 season, Sellers completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, and also ran for 674 yards and seven scores.
Sellers is considered a first-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, with some prognosticators rating him as one of the top overall players in the draft. The backup quarterback for the Gamecocks, if Sellers is not ready to play against the Missouri Tigers, is Spencer Rattler.
The Gamecocks suffered a 31-7 home loss to Vanderbilt in their previous game. Missouri, on the other hand, is ranked No. 23 in the current standings. The game against Missouri is scheduled for Saturday.
The Gamecocks will be looking to bounce back from their loss and secure a victory against the Tigers. Regardless of who starts at quarterback, the team will need to play a solid game to have a chance at winning. The game against Missouri promises to be an exciting one, with both teams looking to make a statement.
