The Coalition of the Willing, led by Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron, has reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful resolution in Ukraine. In a recent meeting, the leaders emphasized that any peace negotiations must be based on a ceasefire or a long-term and significant cessation of hostilities, with Ukraine fully involved in the process [1][3][5].

The Coalition is adamant about respecting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, with no forced changes to international borders. They support robust security guarantees for Ukraine, including plans to deploy a multinational reassurance force once hostilities end to secure Ukraine’s skies, seas, and help rebuild its armed forces [3].

In the event of Russia's refusal to agree to a ceasefire, the Coalition is prepared to strengthen sanctions and economic pressure on Russia’s war economy [1]. They also plan to continue close cooperation with the USA, President Trump, President Zelenskyy, and other international partners for a just and lasting peace [1][3].

Keir Starmer has been actively involved, co-chairing meetings and planning to meet in Washington alongside Zelenskyy and other European leaders to coordinate on security plans and support efforts for peace [2][3]. The US Vice President JD Vance joined the meeting while currently visiting the UK, and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in the meeting from Germany.

Starmer underscored the importance of combining active diplomacy with military support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia. He also emphasized that there should be no negotiations about Ukraine without Ukraine's involvement [4].

Starmer considered the Alaska meeting between Trump and Putin to be "hugely important" [6]. He also mentioned that Trump has agreed to debrief immediately after his meeting with Putin. The conflict in Ukraine has been ongoing for three and a half years, and the Coalition remains resolute in its stance, prepared to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions and "wider measures" if necessary [1].
