Looking for some sun after the stormy weather? Back to basking in the rays it is, but be prepared for scorching temperatures and potential thunderstorms. Björn Alexander, ntv's weather guru, has the lowdown on what's coming our way.

First up, stormy weather! From the west, powerful to near-severe thunderstorms are rolling in. While they'll mostly damage the western and northwest areas initially, later temperature instability can create thunder and lightning everywhere in the afternoon. So, who's in the hot zone?

Well, there are two: one zone covers the Saarland to Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein with a heightened risk of severe weather; the other indicates a risky stretch from the Alps through the Allgäu and Bavarian Forest - including Munich - with the forecast starting around midday or early afternoon. Yes, you heard that right: both zones could see storm surge and flooding!

But what about the danger level? Unpleasantly hot, humid conditions in the eastern regions, coupled with highs reaching 33°C, will set the stage for fierce thunderstorms. And be prepared: these thunderstorms can bring intense rainfall of up to 50 liters per square meter in a short period, which could result in local flooding.

Oh, and did you hear about the potential hailstorms? No? Well, you should. Severe gusts of wind up to 100 km/h are possible, and in the worst-case scenario, 120 km/h isn't entirely out of the question! Prepare yourself; the stormy days are upon us!

Want to know when things calm down? Take a deep breath and look to Friday, St. John’s Day. The weather will turn relaxed, with a few scattered showers, and temperatures scaling back to somewhere between 20-29°C.

Though this weather on St. John's Day may not bring enchanting omens for the entire summer, fear not—for St. Swithin’s Day (July 7th) is when we turn to for those! However, the fascinating St. Swithin’s Day weather rule isn't exactly applicable yet and is about a long-term directional shift, generally lasting from late June through mid-July, with temperatures trending upwards.

Now, let's talk heat. As the weekend approaches, expect soaring temperatures, so don your sunglasses and lather up with sunscreen! With the exception of the cooler coastline regions, temperatures will reach 24-32°C in most regions. We're talking 33°C on Saturday and 36°C on Sunday along the Rhine and its tributaries, with rising humidity to keep those nights warmer!

The heat keeps building up, with temperatures exceeding 30°C across Germany, and hotspots reaching as high as 38°C! This may even beat the current record of 36°C, so stay cool and hydrated!

The old records show 39.6°C in Bernburg on the Saale in June 2019—an insane summer that brought us dozens of 40°C record-breakers! But remember, the upcoming heat wave will last from several days to over a week, depending on the region and weather model. Be cautious; it'll be an extreme heat wave followed by severe thunderstorms with the next weather change.

Stay informed and prepared for the coming heat wave by checking updates from reliable meteorological sources!

  • With the heat wave approaching, international weather forecasting suggests temperatures will soar across Germany, reaching up to 36°C by Sunday along the Rhine and its tributaries.
  • Prepare for potential severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall as a result of weather forecasting, with the heat wave expected to last several days to over a week in various regions.
