Clearing Skies and Rising Temperatures: Summer Weather Returns to Bavaria

After a period of heavy rain and thunderstorms in Bavaria during late July and early August 2025, the weather has started to improve, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). The summer conditions are now expected to return for the remainder of the summer holidays.

From early August onwards, Munich and Franconia can expect mostly sunny weather with temperatures rising again to around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius. The rainy period, characterized by heavy precipitation and possible flooding mainly south of the Danube, has largely ended, and the following days show increasing sunshine and warming temperatures.

Specifically:

  • The heavy rainfall and storm warnings that affected Bavaria through late July have subsided by early August.
  • Starting around August 5, the DWD forecasts a transition to sunny, hot weather, with temperatures in Munich expected to reach up to 32°C on weekends after the rainy spell.
  • For Franconia (the northern part of Bavaria, including Nuremberg), a similar warming trend with more sunshine and less rain is expected, with daytime temperatures reaching about 25°C on weekdays but rising on sunny days.
  • On Wednesday (around early August), the DWD noted a return of sunny spells in Bavaria with temperatures around 25°C for Munich, with only occasional clouds. Nights are expected to clear further after the rain has stopped.
  • The rainy disturbances mostly affected southern Bavaria and regions south of the Danube, while northern Bavaria (Franconia) has tended to have somewhat less severe rainfall and a quicker return to dry conditions.

In the coming days:

  • The temperatures will reach a maximum of 25 degrees from Wednesday.
  • The temperatures in Bavaria on Tuesday will reach 20 to 26 degrees.
  • Only at the Alps are a few drops expected to fall in the morning from Wednesday.
  • On Thursday, the DWD predicts plenty of sunshine, few clouds, and maximum temperatures between 23 and 28 degrees.
  • The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts plenty of sunshine from the middle of the week.
  • It is expected to rain throughout the day today in Bavaria.
  • Less rain is expected in the evening in Bavaria today.
  • Many clouds are expected today in Bavaria.
  • In the south of Bavaria, there will be sunshine in the morning.
  • From Wednesday onwards, Bavaria will have plenty of sunshine and no more rain.
  • Improvement in weather is expected in Bavaria from the middle of the week.

In summary, for the days following the rainy period, the weather in Munich and Franconia is improving markedly with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing back into the mid to high 20s and low 30s Celsius, consistent with a return of summer warmth for the rest of the summer holidays. The UV index over Bavaria will be in the medium to high range. Only in parts of Middle Franconia and the Upper Palatinate will the index remain in the low range.

  • The heavy rainfall and storm warnings that affected Bavaria through late July have subsided by early August, and the Commission has also been consulted on a draft directive unrelated to weather, namely the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation.
  • Starting around August 5, while the UV index over Bavaria will be in the medium to high range, the DWD forecasts a transition to sunny, hot weather with temperatures in Munich expected to reach up to 32°C on weekends, after the rainy spell, marking a return of the summer warmth for the rest of the summer holidays.
