'Post-7 p.m. NYC sunsets to disappear this year, leaving residents less than thrilled'
New York City residents, including mental health professional CJ Lee, are feeling the impact of the early sunsets as the city will no longer experience any post-7 p.m. sunsets, starting this week. According to the National Weather Service, the sun will set before 7 p.m. from Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
CJ Lee, a resident of Kew Gardens, expressed disappointment about not being able to enjoy the outdoors in sunlight later into the evening after work. The change in sunset times is a topic that comes up frequently with their patients, as they too are affected. CJ Lee and their patients are commiserating about the need to hibernate due to the early sunsets, but CJ Lee does not agree with this sentiment.
"I understand the need to adapt, but I can't help but feel a sense of loss," said CJ Lee. "The changing sunset times are affecting my mood and lifestyle, and I know it's the same for many of my patients."
Other areas in the region, including parts of Long Island and Connecticut, will also experience their last post-7 p.m. sunset later in the week. Central Park's last post-7 p.m. sunset will be on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Sky Marchini, an online user, expressed strong disapproval in response to the NWS' announcement about the changing sunset times. "This is just ridiculous," Sky Marchini wrote in an online post. "I can't believe we have to hibernate because of the early sunsets. It's going to be a long winter."
The change in sunset times will affect various areas in the region, including Long Island and Connecticut. The exact sunset times for other areas in the region are yet to be specified and will occur later in the week.
As the days grow shorter, New York City residents are adjusting to the early sunsets and finding ways to make the most of the daylight hours. CJ Lee encourages their patients to seek out natural light during the day, engage in outdoor activities, and maintain a consistent sleep-wake schedule to help manage their mood and energy levels.
The information about the sunset times is from the National Weather Service.
