Possible danger: Watching the 'Alien Earth' cat segment could cause distress to viewers
In the latest instalment of the Alien franchise, 'Alien: Earth', the audience is introduced to a horrifying new species – the parasitic eyeball-octopus hybrid known as T. Ocellus. This terrifying creature invades living organisms by removing their eye and implanting itself into the eye socket, allowing it to connect to the brain and control the host's body.
The story begins aboard the Wayland-Yutani exploratory vessel USS Maginino in 2120. The ship, on a 65-year mission to collect alien specimens for research and potential weaponization, carries T. Ocellus as one of five invasive alien species. After the vessel crashes into a new Earth colony called Prodigy City, the containment fails, and T. Ocellus gains freedom to wreak havoc.
T. Ocellus stands out due to its unique parasitic method and potential intelligence. Unlike other infestations known from the Alien franchise, T. Ocellus takes over the host directly through the eye, exhibiting control over the host's body, even attacking hybrid or synthetic creatures, though its intentions remain unclear. This ability pushes the Alien series into new realms of body horror and adds a fresh, disturbing threat that challenges the protagonists in new ways.
One of the most disturbing sequences in 'Alien: Earth' involves the death of a cat, a nod to the original Alien film's beloved character, Jonesy. However, this cat is not the original but has been replaced by T. Ocellus, which is found in a lab, caked in blood, with an unnaturally large eye – a parasitic eyeball-octopus hybrid. The cat sequence pays tribute to the original film while adding a chilling twist.
The cat sequence is not the only homage to the original Alien film. The trailer for 'Alien: Earth' shows the crash landing of Xenomorphs on Earth, setting the stage for a series that maintains the survival pattern of the original while introducing new and terrifying threats.
'Alien: Earth' is now streaming on Hulu, with new episodes premiering Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Hulu and FX. The series provides a fresh take on the Alien franchise, expanding the concept of hostile alien life and body invasion with the introduction of T. Ocellus. Prepare to be disturbed!
