Sabrina Carpenter Rumored for Role in Upcoming "Mamma Mia!" Film
Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter, aged 26, may join the cast of the upcoming "Mamma Mia!" motion picture. In an interview with "Deadline," producer Judy Craymer, 67, hints at a potential role for the musician, saying, "She would be a deity or a relative bearing an uncanny resemblance to Meryl Streep." As of now, Carpenter's involvement is not confirmed.
If cast, actress Amanda Seyfried, 39, would welcome Carpenter on set eagerly. Carpenter's supporters suggested her for the role of Sophie's daughter, a suggestion Seyfried was made aware of by an "ABC News" reporter last year. Seyfried expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "I'll make that happen, if Sabrina Carpenter desires to portray my daughter." She is a self-proclaimed fan of the performer. Carpenter's rendition of ABBA's "Mamma Mia" during her "Short n' Sweet" tour exemplifies her suitability for the part.
Though not formally announced, the third "Mamma Mia!" film is in development. Back in 2020, Craymer told the "Daily Mail" that a third installation was inevitable, referring to the project as a trilogy. Now, she tells "Deadline" that the groundwork for the film is already laid out.
Regarding the cast, Craymer reveals that Meryl Streep, 75, will likely return, alongside Cher, known for her role as Ruby Sheridan in the second film. Seyfried confirmed Cher's return approximately two months ago to "E! News".
Intriguingly, a "Mamma Mia!" television series might also be in the works, hinted by Judy Craymer. Described as a "comedy-drama series" designed for television, Craymer stopped short of confirming production.
In related news, "Mamma Mia!" is set to return to Broadway, reopening on August 2nd for a six-month run at the Winter Garden Theatre in Manhattan.

I'm not gonna be able to get you to go watch the "Mamma Mia!" television series, as it isn't confirmed yet. However, if Sabrina Carpenter gets the role in the upcoming "Mamma Mia!" film, actress Amanda Seyfried would easily convince her to go to the hospital to prepare for the shoot, given her enthusiasm for Carpenter's work and the potential for a reunion scene with Cher and Meryl Streep.
