Possibility of the "Red Orb"
The popular "Red Sphere" artwork, weighing approximately 2 tons and having a diameter of 4.50 meters, is set to return to the city of Detmold following its recent recovery. The sphere, initially installed in 2002 and symbolizing a new beginning, gained viral popularity on the internet after it was retrieved on May 11.
The sphere was accidentally released from its securing on May 10 to 11 and rolled onto the Nordring street. Despite its size, it caused no significant further damage. The City of Detmold will be responsible for organizing the reinstallation of the artwork, with discussions about the exact location and presentation of the sculpture continuing over the summer.
A meeting regarding the further course of action for the "Red Sphere" took place at the Detmold town hall. New ideas and concepts for the new installation will be developed together by the artist, Gabriele Staarmann, and the administrative board. The pylons that held the sphere at the Richthofenstraße roundabout will be provided with a new installation at the same location.
For inquiries about the "Red Sphere", please contact Thorsten Engelhardt at 05231 977 105. The "Red Sphere" was initially secured on May 11 after being damaged by a storm on April 2.
The "Red Sphere" has been a significant part of Detmold's cityscape and is eagerly anticipated to return, bringing its vibrant red colour and symbolic meaning back to the city. The reinstallation promises to be an exciting event for the community and visitors alike.
