Unleashing the Rugby Sevens Champions: Portugal Wins 2025 Challenger Series! 🏆

Portugal triumphs as champions in the tournament

The dynamic world of Rugby Sevens saw some intense action with Portugal bagging the top spot in the 2025 Challenger Series! After wrapping up the first stage at a splendid fifth place in Cape Town, the underdogs took the trophy home with their victories in the following two tournaments in South Africa and Poland, amassing a grand total of 52 points.

As the rivalry heated up, Germany, with the same 52 points, finished just shy of the winning streak. A valiant Canada secured the third spot with 48 points in the final stage, skilfully setting the stage for an epic showdown.

Portugal proved to be the breakout star of the season. Their outstanding performances, such as the semi-final victory against Germany with a thrilling score of 24-17, became highlights of the tournament. Captain Fábio Conceição shone with three tries, while Manuel Fati, Bernardo Valente, and Manuel Vareiro added one try each to the tally.

In a closely contested final against the Samoan team, Manuel Vareiro's astounding up-and-under-kick breathed fresh life into the match, putting Portugal in the lead against the tide. As the game progressed, the duo of Fábio Conceicao and Portugal managed to maintain their position, ultimately sealing their well-deserved victory.

An elated Fabio Conceicao commented following the win, "It's been a magical journey for us as a youthful team entering this tournament with some heavyweights. We knew we could outperform any team and proved it on the field."

Comprising two legs in South Africa and one in Poland, the 2025 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series serves as the initial stepping stone for teams seeking qualification for the World Rugby Sevens World Tour. In this series, the top eight teams from the two Cape Town stages, contested in March, advanced to the tournament in Krakow, Poland.

In the knockout stages of the World Sevens Series, the final four top-performing teams, including Portugal, Germany, Canada, and Samoa, will battle it out in Los Angeles, USA, on May 3 and 4. The tournament features the four bottom-ranked teams on the World Tour, as well as the four Challenger teams, with the top four teams earning a ticket to the World Rugby Tour the following season.

Portugal is poised to regain its place on the World Circuit, having been a resident team from 2012 to 2016. Keep an eye on these Champions as they storm through this year's games and reach new heights! 🌟

Following their remarkable fifth place finish in Cape Town, Portugal demonstrated an unstoppable run during the subsequent two tournaments, clinching the top spot in the 2025 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series. As Portugal gears up for the knockout stages of the World Sevens Series in Los Angeles, football fans worldwide eagerly await their next match, hoping to witness more of Portugal's incredible sports news.
