Portugal's Showdown Against Georgia in UEFA Under-21 Final Phase

Get ready for an action-packed clash as Portugal faces Georgia this Tuesday, wrapping up the initial stage of the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in Trencin, Slovakia. The Portuguese squad, leading their group thanks to a superior goal difference and a quarter-final draw, will stride onto the Sihot Stadium pitch at 18:00 local time (17:00 in Lisbon).

Having shared the score with France (0-0) and trounced Poland (5-0), Rui Jorge's team is gearing up for their third straight game at the stadium. Simultaneously, the match between France and Poland, both eliminated, will unfold in Zilina.

With four points, Portugal and France are neck and neck, while Georgia clings to third place with a chance at qualification, leaving Poland behind with a dismal zero points. Making its 10th appearance, and third consecutive, in the final phase, Portugal boasts 23 fully fit players.

Portugal and Georgia square off for the second time, having clinched a 2-0 victory in 2023 in the opening round of Group A in an edition of the competition that Romania co-hosted.

In the group stage format, introduced in 2000, Portugal has managed to advance four times (2004, 2015, 2021, and 2023) while also suffering four eliminations (2002, 2006, 2007, and 2017). As they edge closer to 500 goals in the aggregate of qualification and final phases of the European Under-21 Championships, they've logged 147 wins, 38 draws, and 51 losses in 236 matches.

In the quarter-finals, Portugal awaits Denmark, Ukraine, the Netherlands, or Finland, depending on the outcome of Group C, in a match set for June 21 if they secure the group win, or in Presov the following day should they finish runner-up.

The 25th edition of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship commenced on Wednesday and wraps up on June 28, with the final taking place at the Tehelné pole Stadium in Bratislava. Portugal, a two-time runner-up in 1994, 2015, and 2021, eyes its inaugural title in its 10th participation, aiming for glory in their third consecutive appearance.

Note: The most recent data available indicates that the Group A standings for Portugal, France, Georgia, and Poland are temporarily suspended or unavailable, making it impossible to confirm the results of their previous matches in the ongoing competition.

The upcoming match between Portugal and Georgia serves as a crucial encounter in European leagues, particularly the UEFA Under-21 Football Championship. As Portugal aims to secure a spot in the next round, their victory against Georgia in a previous encounter (2-0) might boost their confidence in the premier league.
