Portugal exhibits excessive verbosity, according to Montenegro.

Illegal foreign nationals, found to be in the country unlawfully, are being asked to leave as per Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's statements. This request comes after the government's confirmation of 4,574 departure notices, part of a larger group of 18,000 rejected cases that have already...

Portugal exhibits excessive verbosity, according to Montenegro.

In the heat of the Porto district, AD leader, Luís Montenegro, recently let loose his thoughts on immigration at a packed rally. And boy, did he pull no punches!

Immigration has been the talk of the town these days, ever since the government waved their magic wand and issued notifications to more than 4,500 foreigners living large on our soil illegally. That's right, folks, 4,500! And there are thousands more coming down the pipeline!

In Montenegro's eyes, the solution to poverty isn't just about handing out doleys. No sir, it's about building wealth! His vision? Retaining home-grown talent and luring foreign labor to make our country a productive, wealth-generating machine. As he put it, "Poverty is fought by creating wealth."

But where some see opportunity, Montenegro sees chaos. Last year, he pointed out, Portugal found itself smack-dab in the middle of an immigration sector tornado, with a whopping 400,000 pending processes shoved under the rug. Can you imagine that? People expressing interest in entering our country, the door opens automatically, and nobody knows jack about 'em!

"The great blackout that happened in Portugal was the absence of an immigration policy," Montenegro blasted, giving the PS executives a piece of his mind.

Fear not, though! Montenegro assured the fearful that those who don't play by the rules will be shown the door and sent packing back to their home country. You see, if there are no consequences for not following the rules, then folks will just keep breaking 'em, right?

The Social Democrat leader also took aim at the PS secretary-general, Pedro Nuno Santos, who tried to defend that the AD was just continuing what the PS government had done on illegal immigration. Montenegro dismissed this notion as the biggest joke of the campaign.

"Those who say that AD is not doing more than continuing what the PS government was doing, can only say that the biggest joke of this election campaign has already been found," he commented. "But this is not a joke."

Finally, Montenegro took a shot at Chega, accusing the party of spreading lies and being destructive. However, he admitted that some voters opted for Chega in the last elections because they agreed that open borders weren't the solution for Portugal's future.

"These people understood that completely open doors were not a solution for Portugal's future. And therefore, these people believed in Chega and voted for Chega," he maintained.

Fast forward to now, and practitioners in the field estimate that there will be a whopping 1.6 million foreign residents in Portugal by 2024. And the government is currently in the process of issuing notifications for thousands more foreigners to pack their bags and head back home, with over 4,500 already receiving the boot.

But don't go thinking that Montenegro is done talking just yet! The PSD president has more words to share on immigration, so keep your eyes peeled for updates!

Luís Montenegro, the AD leader, criticized the government's handling of illegal immigration and argued that the absence of an immigration policy was responsible for the chaos in Portugal. He also accused the Social Democrat leader, Pedro Nuno Santos, of making a joke by suggesting that the AD was just continuing what the PS government had done on illegal immigration. Montenegro also addressed the rising number of foreign residents in Portugal, predicting that there would be 1.6 million foreign residents in the country by 2024. Despite this, he emphasized that those who don't play by the rules will be deported.

PM Luís Montenegro makes declarations as government announces 4,574 deportation notices for illegal foreign nationals, who are part of a larger group of 18,000 immigrants previously undecided.
