Germany ousted from Nations League by Portugal's triumph - Portugal eliminates Germany from the Nations League competition

Cristiano Ronaldo, the eternal football star, dealt a crushing blow to Germany and sent them packing out of the Nations League. His 137th goal for Portugal capped off a breathtaking 1:2 (0:0) victory over the DFB team led by captain Joshua Kimmich in the tense semi-final.

The match initially seemed destined for a German win, as Florian Wirtz headed in a goal in the 48th minute from a chip pass by Kimmich. However, Ronaldo, who proved to be the man of the match, orchestrated Portugal's stunning comeback, scoring twice in quick succession—first through Francisco Conceicao in the 63rd minute and then his own 68th-minute effort.

Joshua Kimmich made history by playing his 100th international match in this encounter, but it was Ronaldo's contribution that set the difference between the two sides. For the German team, this defeat marked their first since exiting the quarter-finals at Euro 2024.

Instead of playing for the Nations League trophy, the disorganized and underperforming German team will now face either European champions Spain or World Cup runners-up France on Sunday (15:00 CET) in Stuttgart for the third-place match. With a few late heroics by Marc-André ter Stegen in goal, the German team was spared a 1:3 loss.

🌩️ Surprise Weather InterferenceThe kick-off was delayed by 10 minutes due to a sudden storm that disrupted the warm-up. As goalkeepers, including Marc-André ter Stegen, entered the field for warm-up, they had to retreat to the dressing room because of heavy hail. Thanks to Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, the match was allowed to proceed shortly after.

Before the game, Julian Nagelsmann expressed the importance of the match, stating, "We're all burning to play, even if it's just a step. But we want it to be a step." He fielded a three-man defense, with Robin Koch in the center, likely to counter Portugal's playmaking style. However, the German tactic only partially worked initially, as the guests demonstrated their potency with their variable positional play, especially in transition.

🤝 Debutant Woltemade StrugglesAfter 15 minutes, the German team increased the pressure, creating multiple opportunities. However, debutant Nick Woltemade struggled to find the right running path, and Wirtz was closely marked by the Portuguese. Meanwhile, Ter Stegen showcased an excellent performance, saving Kimmich's and Goretzka's shots in the first half.

The Portuguese, missing key players Vitinha and Goncalo Ramos due to lineup adjustments, remained dangerous on the counter, with Ronaldo coming close to scoring on multiple occasions.

Football never fails to entertain, and this Nations League match was no exception. From Ronaldo's incredible performance to Germany's disappointing defeat, the tension and excitement never let up. Stay tuned for the final match, as Portugal vies for the title.
