Porsche to unveil two new models simultaneously at the DTM event

Porsche has announced the latest additions to their lineup of racing cars, the new Porsche 911 GT3 R and 911 Cup, set to make their competitive debuts in 2026. The vehicles will be unveiled at the DTM race at the Nürburgring, marking a significant evolution in Porsche's GT3 customer racing program.

The 2026 Porsche 911 GT3 R

The 2026 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992.2 generation) boasts significant upgrades in aerodynamics, suspension, and durability while retaining its powerful 4.2-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing up to 557 hp (416 kW) depending on Balance of Performance (BoP).

Key improvements include aerodynamic enhancements such as louvers on the front wheel arches, a Gurney flap on the rear wing, and an enclosed underbody with reinforced rear sections that boost airflow and downforce. Suspension refinements include revised multi-link rear suspension geometry, optimized double wishbone front suspension kinematics, and modified kinematics on the rear axle for improved handling precision and braking stability.

Cooling and durability upgrades include additional fluid cooling for the electrohydraulic power steering, ceramic wheel bearings, NACA ducts in side skirts for independent cooling air to the driveshafts, and adjustable rear brake cooling. The car also features enhanced standard equipment, including sensor packages, endurance packages, pit lane link, camera packages, drink system mounts, refueling detection sensor, and auxiliary refueling LED.

Porsche Motorsport offers around 60 update kits so existing 992 generation 911 GT3 Rs can be upgraded to the 2026 specification.

The 2026 Porsche 911 Cup

Porsche Motorsport also introduced the new 2026 Porsche 911 Cup (992.2 generation) for the 2026 season. Powered by the same 4.2-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, the car shares much of the drivetrain architecture with the GT3 R and is optimized for customer racing, complementing the GT3 R's position at the top of Porsche's GT customer racing range.

Both cars are designed with refined drivability and durability to support gentleman drivers and customer teams across various GT3 series, including IMSA, FIA WEC, NLS, and LMGT3. The development focus for the new 911 Cup was on improved performance and simplified handling for drivers and teams. The new 911 Cup combines extensive detail modifications with the design of the 992.2 generation.

Porsche's Racing Presence at the Nürburgring

From August 8-10, the new Porsche 911 GT3 R and 911 Cup will be on display in the DTM paddock at the Nürburgring. The DTM will host two Porsche world premieres, with the new 911 GT3 R competing in the DTM next year, while the new 911 GT3 Cup will be featured in Porsche's one-make series. ADAC Motorsport is involved in the presentation of the new Porsche 911 GT3 R and 911 Cup at the Nürburgring.

The evolution of the Porsche 911 GT3 R can be seen in the DTM and ADAC GT Masters in 2026. Both cars are expected to make their competitive debuts in their respective series in 2026. The new 911 GT3 R and 911 Cup represent the latest evolution of Porsche's GT3 customer racing program with aerodynamic and suspension enhancements, improved cooling and durability, and more comprehensive standard equipment packages — all while retaining the proven 4.2-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six engine foundation.

  • Other than the announced racing cars by Porsche in 2026, the new Porsche 911 Cup (992.2 generation) will also be introduced, designed for customer racing and sharing many similarities with the 911 GT3 R.
  • During the DTM race at the Nürburgring, the 2026 Porsche 911 GT3 R and 911 Cup will make their debut, showcasing Porsche's commitment to other sports like hockey, as well as their evolution in the GT customer racing program.
