Pornographic platform Pornhub enacts prohibition on content originating from Texas

In a recent turn of events, Pornhub and its sister sites have been inaccessible to residents of Texas. This decision comes after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled in favour of Texas, deciding that the state's law does not violate the First Amendment.

The Texas age verification law, which requires adult sites like Pornhub to obtain digital identification for users, went into effect last September. The lawsuit was filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against Pornhub's parent company Aylo in February 2023.

Alex Kekesi, Vice President (VP) of Brand and Community at Aylo, has stated that they will continue to fight for the adult industry and performers. Kekesi believes the Texas law is unconstitutional and intends to appeal through all available judicial recourse. Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, plans to continue its legal battle against the Texas age verification law.

Pornhub's message to users in Texas states that the state's law for age verification is ineffective, haphazard, and dangerous. The message further states that a real solution for age verification has not been offered yet.

Searches for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in Texas have quadrupled, according to CNN, as users seek ways to bypass the restrictions. However, until a real solution for age verification is offered, Pornhub and its sister sites remain inaccessible in Texas.

The decision in Texas follows a similar trend. Montana and North Carolina have already lost access to Pornhub and its sister sites. Arkansas, Mississippi, Utah, Louisiana, and Virginia have either lost access or will lose access due to their own age verification laws.

On a positive note, the governor of Indiana has signed his state's age verification law. It remains to be seen how this will unfold in the coming months.

As the legal battle continues, Pornhub and its parent company Aylo are determined to fight for their rights and the rights of the adult industry. The future of adult content accessibility in various states is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the fight is far from over.
