Popular Tunes of Schlager, Knef's Performances, and a Picnic by Erfurt Cathedral
Party Time in Erfurt! controversy-free version
Hey there! Get ready for a blast in Erfurt, not just because of the sizzling summer weather, but also due to the fantastic events lined up for us in the upcoming weeks: Krämerbrücke Festival, Fête de la musique, Domplatz and Petersberg concerts. The Picknick Concert on June 22nd fits right in! Here's the deal: Bring a cozy blanket, a basket (or backpack), some grub, and settle in comfortably on the Severi Meadow on the Domberg.
The Picknick Concert is a one-of-a-kind joint performance by the Thuringia Police Orchestra and the Academic Orchestra of Erfurt. Musical maestros Christian Beyer and Sebastian Krahnert have a history of collaborative brilliance, with Krahnert sharing, "Great ideas come in pairs." From 1999 to 2010, he was the conductor and artistic director of the University Orchestra of Erfurt, a role now held by the Academic Orchestra. Christian Beyer is a member of this esteemed ensemble but will take the helm of the Police Orchestra on June 22nd. The two will alternate conducting duties for the symphonic pieces.
Classic Tunes to Groove To
"What should audience members expect?" ponders Steffen Wolf from the Friends of the Thuringia Police Orchestra. "A musical afternoon enjoyment reminiscent of entertainment music from the 1920s to the 1960s," says Wolf. "Swing, glamour, and big feelings," adds Christian Beyer with a grin. You'll be treated to hits from five decades, tunes by the Comedian Harmonists, and classics like "Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen" by Hildegard Knef.
The concert's special attraction is the performance of Eduard Künneke's rarely-played suite. This dance suite, which combines a jazz band with a large orchestra, is an interesting musical pairing that rarely occurs. The work is light and lively but comes with its share of challenges for the performers.
Rain Plan: Concert in the Severi Church
"It's an awesome atmosphere," summarizes Christian Beyer the reasons to attend on June 22nd. "Two orchestras are playing, and the dance suite is a real rarity." Another reason: the pricing. Admission is just 12 euros, making it a budget-friendly outing for families! Children get in free. And if it rains, the concert will be moved next door to the Severi Church.
A Dose of Good Vibes
Sebastian Krahnert, who has performed as a conductor and pianist at prestigious venues like the Dresden Music Festival, the Berlin Schauspielhaus, and the Apollosaal of the Staatsoper Berlin, has a final pitch to sway everyone interested: "In these times, one can't complain about having too much good-spirited entertainment, but at this concert, you'll certainly find some!"
