Pope Leo XIV underscores the unwavering dignity that deserves continual respect for all individuals.

Pope Leo XIV has called for a solution to the ongoing crisis in Gaza, addressing the issue during a general audience at St. Peter's Square. Nearly 35,000 pilgrims gathered to hear the Pope's concerns and statements.

The Pope's call was made in the context of the current situation in Gaza, expressing deep concern for the homeless and refugees, including those from the Holy Family. He stated that each person has an inviolable dignity and emphasized the need for a negotiated diplomatic solution.

The Pope renewed his call for the liberation of hostages and urged full respect of international humanitarian law. He also recalled the sixth commandment: 'Thou shalt not kill.' However, his statements did not mention any intent to promote peace and justice or recall the sixth commandment explicitly.

The Pope's concerns and statements regarding Gaza were in response to questions from journalists. He did not specify any new call or message, but publicly indicated that the possible solutions, according to the Holy See, are: ceasefire, liberation of hostages, dialogue and negotiations, and 'full' respect of international humanitarian law.

The Catholic parish priest of Gaza, Father Gabriel Romanelli, and the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity of Mother Teresa continue to support the 450 refugees within the church grounds. Father Romanelli maintains ongoing contact with Pope Leo XIV.

In a separate statement made at Castel Gandolfo, the Pope also expressed his concern about the 'exodus' from Gaza. Pope Leo XIV's call was made before God and humanity as witness, although he did not mention any witness during his statements yesterday.

Pope Leo XIV's call for a solution in Gaza follows similar appeals from previous Popes, with Pope Leo XIV himself previously calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The ongoing crisis in Gaza has displaced thousands of people and caused widespread suffering, making the Pope's call for a peaceful resolution all the more urgent.
