New Pope Leo XIV Presides Over Inaugural Major International Event: The Youth Jubilee Mass

On August 3, 2025, Pope Leo XIV will preside over the Youth Jubilee Mass, his first major international event since assuming the papacy following the death of Pope Francis. The outdoor Mass will take place at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, a significant location as it was also the site of St. John Paul II's closing ceremony for the World Youth Day in the year 2000.

The Youth Jubilee Mass, concluding the Jubilee of Youth, part of the Catholic Church's 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope, is expected to gather an estimated one million young people from around the world. Over 150,000 young people from more than 140 countries are expected to participate in the event.

The ceremony will be broadcast live through TVE's La 2 and on the website Play. The broadcast on Play will commence at 9.00 am CET. Users can follow the event from any device through the website, with the ability to pause, rewind, and watch on demand.

Pope Leo XIV has been actively involved in Jubilee events, greeting pilgrims, encouraging meetings, and participating in vigils. During the opening mass of the Youth Jubilee on July 29th, he delivered a message: "Youth of the world, we want peace!"

The broadcast will include the complete liturgical ceremony and images of the large gathering. Tens of thousands of young pilgrims from around the world will gather for the ceremony, making it the largest event of Pope Leo XIV's pontificate so far.

For those unable to attend the event, the broadcast offers an opportunity to witness this historic occasion. The Youth Jubilee Mass promises to be a significant event in the Catholic Church's calendar, underscoring Pope Leo XIV's commitment to engaging with the youth and promoting peace.

The Youth Jubilee Mass, an important event for the Catholic Church, is anticipated to attract an average of over 150,000 young participants from sports (various countries) as part of the Jubilee of Youth. This gathering, as the largest event of Pope Leo XIV's pontificate thus far, will emphasize his dedication towards engaging with the youth and promoting peace.
