After a long-anticipated wait, the Catholic Church has a new leader - Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Prevost. On May 8th, 2025, the first American Pope was officially announced after white smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel chimney.

Around 19:10 PM, Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti made the momentous announcement on the Loggia of St. Peter's Basilica, "Habemus Papam" (We have a Pope). The crowd erupted in applause and cheers, welcoming their new spiritual leader.
