Farewell to The Ponys' Drumming Sensation, Nathan Jerde

Let's talk about Nathan Jerde, the one-of-a-kind drummer and founding member of the kick-ass Indie-Rock band, The Ponys, from Chicago. Sadly, we've lost him on May 6th.

His band mates took to Facebook with a heart-wrenching tribute, sharing several memorable pictures of Nathan and pouring their feelings into words. "It's with the heaviest of hearts that we let you know our friend, our band mate, our brother left this world today," they wrote.

Nathan was amaaaazing on the drums, his art skills as savant-like as his beats. He had a soft spot for goofing around and was known for his sweet and gentle nature. The band traveled the world together, munching on gourmet meals and garnering lifelong friendships along the way.

You know how brothers can fight? Well, Nathan and his bandmates were no exception. But they always managed to have a blast together.

Their message concluded with a touching sentiment, "Nathan, we will miss you so much!"

Formed way back in 2001, The Ponys was the brainchild of vocalist and guitarist Jered Gunmere, with girlfriend (and later wife) Melissa Elias joining as the bassist. Alongside Nathan Jerde, previously the drummer for The Mushuganas, and Ian Adams, the band was complete.

Their debut album, Laced with Romance, dropped in 2004, produced by Jim Diamond. Jim was instrumental in shaping the band's unique sound. In 2005, The Ponys collaborated with renowned producer Steve Albini to release their second album, Celebration Castle, reflecting their desire to work locally in Chicago.

Though The Ponys are no longer an active band, their influence in the garage-rock genre remains strong. The surviving band members include Jared Gummere, Melissa Elias, Ian Adams, and Brian Case.

Throughout their career, Nathan showcased his outstanding drumming abilities and artistic prowess. His contributions to the band will forever be cherished by his bandmates and the music community as a whole. Nathan's passing has left a profound impact on all those fortunate enough to have known him. 💔
