Former Soviet national football player Vladimir Ponomarev has commented on the departure of Igor Osinsky as head coach of "Wings of the Soviets." Osinsky's contract was not renewed, ending his tenure with the Samara team, as announced officially today. Ponomarev praised the team's performances under Osinsky.
Ponomarev also suggested a potential replacement for the vacant position at "Wings." He advocated for the appointment of Sergei Ignashevich, praising the young yet highly qualified coach for his knack for strategizing games.
"He's a competent specialist who will undoubtedly improve the team's rankings," Ponomarev stated.
Ignashevich, 45, has been jobless since June 2024. Previously, he served as coach for Moscow's "Torpedo" and Kaliningrad's "Baltika," where he led the latter team to the Russian Cup finals in 2024.
In light of Ignashevich's impressive coaching career and reputation as one of the key players in Russian football, his potential appointment for the "Wings" vacancy could set significant precedents in Russian coaching circles.
