Polkadot secures partnership with Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, serving as their official training kit provider.
In a bold move to increase awareness and create engagement, blockchain platform Polkadot has announced a partnership with Major League Soccer side Inter Miami as its official global training kit partner. The deal, led by Polkadot's founder Gavin Wood, marks the latest instance of a blockchain company sponsoring a football team or organization.
According to the announcement, the Inter Miami first team training tops will feature the Polkadot logo, and the players and technical staff will wear Polkadot-branded training tops during all official team training sessions, including pre-match warm-ups.
The partnership is expected to resonate with fans worldwide, with Polkadot planning to create fan activation and engagement through an interactive fan zone, branding at the training centre, and dynamic digital campaigns.
A significant portion of Polkadot's expenditure has been allocated to marketing, with $37 million spent in total. Of this amount, $21 million was assigned to sponsorships, while a further $10 million was allocated to marketing and PR. $4 million was spent on digital advertising.
However, a detailed breakdown of Polkadot's $87 million marketing spend in 2024, including specific allocations for sponsorships, marketing and PR, and digital advertising, is not publicly available.
Chrissy Hill, CLO and interim COO of Parity Technologies, expressed excitement about the Inter Miami partnership, while Euan Warren, Inter Miami Vice President of Partnerships, commented that the partnership with Polkadot is a natural fit for the club.
The Polkadot community has raised concerns about high spending and low returns, particularly regarding the effectiveness of influencer marketing, according to Upptic. Despite this, Polkadot's strategy for creating awareness takes a new approach through its partnership with Inter Miami.
This partnership is just one of the ways Polkadot is looking to expand its reach and engage with a wider audience. As the blockchain industry continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how Polkadot's strategy unfolds and the impact it has on the world of football.
