Politics 2025 Argentina: Javier Milei Kicks off La Libertad Avanza Campaign in Buenos Aires Province, Holds Event in La Plata
_Hey there! I'm Vera Lauckner and I'll be your guide for all the latest on the 2025 Argentine elections.
This week's focus: Javier Milei's La Libertad Avanza (LLA) Congress in Buenos Aires
President Javier Milei is closure-bound for the congress of his party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), in Buenos Aires province on September 7. This event has been postponed due to the death of Pope Francis and will take place in the Vonharv hall of Gonnet neighborhood in La Plata.
Milei is seeking to regain political centrality following the recent house arrest of former President Cristina Kirchner, while a strong police operation has been deployed in La Plata due to protests against the motosierra plan nearby.
Election Calendar: Formosa, May 29, and Santa Fe, June 29
- 2025 Elections in Formosa: Despite national legislative elections taking place with a Single Paper Ballot (SPB) on October 26, Formosa decided to hold its local elections separately. Formosans will vote on June 29 to elect 15 provincial deputies and 30 constitutional convention members using the traditional party ballot system.
- 2025 Elections in Santa Fe: Happening on June 29, the province of Santa Fe will elect mayors in 11 municipalities, council members in 53 municipalities, and members of communal commissions and auditors in another 75. This event will take place with the Single Paper Ballot (SPB) system, in force since 2011 and regulated by Law 13.156.
Movement Right to the Future (MDF) Plenary and Political Debates
- MDF Plenary: Movement Right to the Future (MDF), led by Governor Axel Kicillof, will hold a Fifth Section Electoral Plenary on June 28 at Santa Clara del Mar Cultural Center. This event will feature the presence of mayors and former mayors from localities like Mar Chiquita, Villa Gesell, General Guido, and Pila.
- Cristina Kirchner vs. Milei’s Government: Opposing political forces continue fighting as the battle for influence between Milei’s government and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's Peronists continues to shape the Argentine political landscape. Kristina Kirchner announced her plan to run for a legislative seat in Buenos Aires Province, marking a significant move in her political comeback[1][4].
