One month following the firming up of border defenses, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt sat down with his Polish counterpart Tomasz Siemoniak in Warsaw this Monday, both engaging in talks surrounding collaboration in curbing unauthorized immigration. As per the German Interior Ministry, these two dignitaries underscored the importance of boosting efforts to protect the EU’s external borders and squashing irregular migration.
Poland and Warsaw concurred that "a stringent migration policy stance is essential in Europe," as Dobrindt stated, further emphasizing that only joint actions can stymie unauthorized migration to Europe.
Siemoniak expressed that fortifying the EU’s external borders and combating unlawful migration are "shared priorities for Germany and Poland". Both nations are resolutionary in strengthening their measures decisively to effectively tackle the challenges of human trafficking and smuggling.
The ministers acknowledged that "migrants are currently serving as tools in a hybrid war propagated by Russia and Belarus". Hence, it's "legitimate for countries under migration pressure to take extraordinary measures to preempt the destabilization of asylum and social systems."
Dobrindt had mandated sturdier border controls and expulsions, including of asylum seekers, on May 7, a decision that faced protests from Poland and Switzerland.

The Polish authorities heartily endorse Germany’s tougher stance, recognizing that such measures make Germany, and consequently the EU, less attractive for illegal migrants [5]. In line with EU regulations, Poland retains the prerogative to temporarily reintroduce border controls at internal borders in response to security risks and migratory pressures.
