In Hamm, on September 11, 2022, a targeted operation focusing on cycling safety was conducted by the local police. The day saw the enforcement of traffic rules and the dissemination of awareness among road users.

During this operation, officers patrolling the city detected and penalized 54 traffic violations throughout the day. One of the most notable incidents involved a 41-year-old resident of Hamm, who was stopped on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße while riding an e-scooter.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the scooter had been tampered with and its operating permit had expired. The 41-year-old now faces an administrative offense procedure.

However, the most surprising development came when the police suspected the 41-year-old of marijuana use. A drug test confirmed the suspicion, leading to the individual's arrest. The name of the resident, as per police protocol, remains undisclosed.

The 41-year-old was taken to the police station for a blood test and now faces a substantial fine. This incident underscores the police's commitment to maintaining safety on the roads and enforcing traffic laws.

In addition to the enforcement of traffic rules, the police also held many preventive talks with cyclists and pedelec riders. They were warned against using their phones while riding, a practice that not only endangers themselves but also other road users. Failure to comply with this rule may result in a fine and, in case of an accident, criminal consequences.

A significant number of those stopped were found to be using the sidewalk while riding. This practice is strictly prohibited and can lead to fines.

To promote safety and responsible cycling, the police also gave tips on suitable locking methods to citizens who registered their bikes in the local database. They appealed to all cyclists to adhere to traffic rules.

The operation aimed to reduce accidents through traffic enforcement and prevention measures, and to raise awareness among road users. The Hamm police continue their efforts to ensure the safety of all road users and maintain order on the city's streets.
