Politicians confer with VdK members – Dialogue between Council candidates and VdK affiliates

Hangin' with the VIPs at VdK Solingen-Remscheid

Tis the season for chowin' down on some breakfast, shootin' the breeze with local politicos, and championin' the cause of the downtrodden, disabled, ailin', golden-aged, and unemployed masses! That's exactly what went down at the VdK Solingen-Remscheid's members' breakfast in Solingen-Mitte this week.

近 walked through the door were some 35 members, guests, and politicos, as well as representatives from the major parties – and for the first time, CDU mayoral candidate Daniel Flemm. Joining the party were FDP council candidate Nina Brattig, CDU council candidate Harald Schulz, and SPD's Markus Preuss, among others. They all tucked into their grub and prepared for a heart-to-heart discussion, as the VdK champions for the rights of people with disabilities, sick, elderly, or unemployed took center stage.

"It feels like an honor that politics has taken a seat at our table," said VdK chairwoman Heike Herrig, extendin' a warm welcome to the attendees.

Speakin' up for the Voiceless

Ever the gentleman, Flemm began by sharin' his own experiences with caregivin' concerns: "I understand the struggles of runnin' out in the middle of the night to provide assistance to those in need – my family faced that very challenge with three cases at once."

Flemm wasn't just serving up platitudes, either. He stressed the urgency of addressin' the accessibility issues faced by many local residents, espechially when tryin' to get a hold of the administration and hospital: "Too many people don't know who's responsible, and when they do, the process takes too long. That's not a federal issue – that's a problem best solved at the local level."

But Daniel ain't just all talk and no action, no sir! He emphasized that he's ready to take the reins and make a difference in the lives of Solingen-Remscheid's vulnerable citizens.

Lookin' Out for the Family

FDP council candidate and mother-of-seven, Nina Brattig, also had a heart-shaped message to share: "I care deeply about supportin' families with disabled children. We must ensure that these children and their families are seen and treated with compassion."

Many guests used the event as an opportunity to bring their personal concerns to light, discussin' everything from the barrier-free design of the city center to the lack of public toilets.
