Politician Vincent Marissal contemplates leaving political sphere in 2026 for radio commentator role.
Vincent Marissal Ponders His Political Future, Eyeing Journalism Role
It looks like Quebec Solidaire's Rosemont MP, Vincent Marissal, might not be running for the role of spokesperson in 2026. He even hinted at a move towards a "commentator" or "host" position.
"A thousand reasons" could lead him to depart from politics next year, as Marissal turns 60 in 2026 and has already served eight years as a MP. He expressed interest in revisiting his old passions, potentially as a journalist again, but acknowledged that wouldn't be possible given his political career.
Marissal, already a former parliamentary correspondent for Le Soleil and La Presse, also mentioned the possibility of teaching at a university. For now, he won't be knocking on the door to replace Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois as the male spokesperson for QS.
As of now, Etienne Grandmont, Alexandre Leduc, and Sol Zanetti are among the deputies considering a run for the spokesperson position. Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, the interim spokesperson, has ruled himself out due to his interim status not allowing for a bid.
Marissal, who was first elected in 2018, has a diverse background in media, having worked as a journalist, parliamentary correspondent, assistant director of information, and political columnist. Back in March, he had briefly entertained the idea of running for mayor of Montreal, but later abandoned it due to his sense of obligation to his riding's voters.
