Heart heavy: Turkish politician's tragic demise from electric shock and cardiac arrest

Politician succumbs to electric shock and passes away in Turkey.

Get a load of this, folks! Turkish politician Ferdi Zeyrek met an untimely end after a lethal electric shock at his digs. The docs tried their darndest, but tragically, restoring Zeyrek's spark wasn't in the cards. He was just 48.

Anadolu, Turkey's news powerhouse, reported that Zeyrek, a social democrat and ally of Istanbul's ousted mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, suffered a shocksome shock at home a few days ago. Despite valiant efforts and tons of interventions, he took his final breath at a hospital in Manisa. His demise, according to hospital officials, was due to a sudden attack on his heart.

Zeyrek was Manisa's man, holding the same position in the western Turkish city, nestled along Izmir's Aegean coast. Citizens mourned outside the hospital, paying their respects to their fallen comrade.

In a heartfelt tribute, Imamoglu penned on X, "My heart sinks because I can't find the words to express it. I am devastated by the loss of Ferdi Zeyrek, a tireless, truthful, driven, prosperous, and genuine soul, whom I've learned, devoted himself to Manisa, our beloved friend, brother, and the esteemed Mayor of the magnificent city of Manisa. May he find peace. I pray for him. My deepest sympathies to his family, kin, and the citizens of Manisa."

Politicians showered tributes on Zeyrek. Even Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered his condolences.

Initial reports had Zeyrek's mother too sensitive to the heartbreaking news, potentially triggering a heart attack. She was to hear the heart-wrenching news under medical supervision later. Zeyrek was married, fathering three cherished daughters, as revealed by Anadolu.

So, what's the lowdown on what went down? Electrical issues around the pool might have been the culprit. Investigations are still underway, but it seems there were some critical technical glitches in the electrical setup. Zeyrek's own daughter hinted at possible foul play, suggesting the voltage might've been jacked up. But until the smoke clears, speculation will run rampant.
