President Ruto Defends Affordable Housing Program Amidst Criticism

In a recent visit to the Limuru site, President William Ruto defended his Affordable Housing Program, insisting that it is creating jobs and driving development in Kenya. The President's visit was in response to critics who claimed work had stalled.

During his visit, President Ruto confirmed the progress of the Affordable Housing Program, stating that more than 500 young people are currently employed at the Limuru site alone. He also announced plans to increase the number of youths in the program to 1,640 in the next two to three months.

The Affordable Housing Program has been a contentious issue, with some opposition figures and critics arguing that it serves a limited few or acts as a vehicle for rewards rather than broad public benefit. However, President Ruto dismissed these claims, emphasizing his commitment to transforming Kenya through this policy.

The President questioned whether his rivals have a credible alternative for creating jobs, given the significant impact the Affordable Housing Program has had on employment. He also noted that Kenya will be changed by development programs like the affordable housing project.

President Ruto warned Kenyans not to be swayed by leaders advancing tribal or divisive politics. He stated that the plan to change Kenya cannot be stopped by people who have no brains. The President also urged his opponents to stop "blackmail and threats."

The Affordable Housing Program has employed thousands of youths nationwide, with over 1,320 young people engaged in similar projects across the country. In addition to job creation, the program also aims to construct 28 modern markets across the country, which will have improved facilities such as clean water, electricity, and proper sanitation.

Despite the public backlash, President Ruto insists that the decisions he is making are vital for Kenya’s long-term development. He has faced criticism over the Housing Levy, which has been viewed as an extra tax burden by many Kenyans. However, the President remains committed to the Affordable Housing Program, which he believes is key to addressing Kenya's housing crisis and creating jobs for its youth.
