Betrayal Brewing in PDP's Den: Ex-Senator Effiong Bob Tiptoes Towards APC's Embrace, Triggering a Potential Exodus from the BoT
"Political Unrest in PDP: Governor Udom Emmanuel and BOT Members Contemplate Switch to APC"
A turbulent wind is biting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as former Senator Effiong Bob prepares to journey to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after more than two decades of loyalty, driven by the party's persistent internal squabbles and unresolved crises.
Bob, who held the Senate seat for Akwa Ibom North Central between 2007 and 2011 and lead the Senate Committee on Finance, is said to be abandoning the PDP due to the ongoing battle for the National Secretary position and the party's inability to address its legal and structural hurdles ahead of the 2027 general elections.
"There's no way we'd wish for another Zamfara blow," a confidant stated, referencing the 2019 fiasco where the APC lost every elective position in Zamfara due to flawed primary processes.
Bob's impending exit might not be an isolated incident, as analysts predict similar departures from the PDP's Board of Trustees, potentially igniting a surge of defections comparable to the wave witnessed in Delta State.
The Political Pendulum Swings in Akwa Ibom: Governor Eno's Move to the APC
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State is rumored to be contemplating his future political moves, with credible sources indicating he may soon affiliate himself with the APC, subject to final approval from his predecessor.
"The Governor has been having secret meetings and seems to be inclining towards the APC. He's just waiting for the go-ahead from Udom Emmanuel," one source claimed.
Governor Eno has openly supported President Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, fueling speculation over his next political steps.
Setting Defectors Adrift: PDP Youth Leader's Plea
As the tide of defections sweeps through the PDP, the party's Deputy National Youth Leader, Comrade Timothy Osadolor, warned those on the fence to make their move promptly so the party can forge ahead with loyal members.
"Any BoT member, governor, or senator planning to defect should do so instantaneously. If they lack the fare to Wadata Plaza, we'll foot the bill," Osadolor declared.
"It's better to learn who our true members are now instead of sheltering traitors feeding on the lifeblood of the party from within," he added.
Osadolor pointed out that despite owning 25 states before the 2023 elections, the APC only won in 12, implying that electoral success hinges on the masses, not just high-ranking defectors.
"The people will judge their actions. History will decide whether their defection stems from integrity or political self-interest," he emphasized.
