Political Survey Shows AfD Leading Over Union, Greens, and The Left

In the latest Ipsos.de poll conducted from September 5-7, 2025, significant changes have emerged in Germany's political landscape.

The current black-red coalition government, comprising the SPD and the Union (CDU/CSU), is facing a challenging electoral landscape. According to the poll, the coalition would only manage to secure 39% of the vote, falling short of a majority and marking a decline for both parties.

The Union, which has been losing support for four consecutive months, is now trailing the Alternative for Germany (AfD) for the first time since April 2025. The Union's vote share has remained steady at 26%, while the AfD has seen a slight increase, ranging between 24-26%.

On the other hand, the SPD has maintained its position at 15%, remaining steady in the latest poll.

The Greens and The Left (Die Linke) have shown notable improvements in the poll, each reaching 12%. This is an increase compared to the previous poll, indicating a growing support for these parties.

Unfortunately, the Left Party's sister organisation, Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), has fallen below the five percent hurdle, with a vote share of 4% in the latest poll. This represents a decline compared to the previous poll, and the BSW is now expected to fall short of entering the Bundestag.

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) has stagnated at 3% in the latest poll, also failing to enter the Bundestag.

Interestingly, all other parties together have achieved a vote share of 5% in the latest poll, suggesting a diverse and competitive political landscape in Germany.

These shifts in the poll reflect a dynamic and evolving political landscape in Germany, with parties continuing to jockey for position ahead of the upcoming elections. Stay tuned for more updates as the election approaches.
