In recent developments, Dhaka courts have taken action against several high-profile individuals over corruption allegations.

On August 4, 2025, a court imposed a travel ban on former Sylhet City Corporation mayor Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury following a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The allegations against him include concealing wealth information, involvement in tender manipulation, and extortion [1].

The following day, on August 5, 2025, a Dhaka court also imposed a travel ban on former Rangpur-1 lawmaker Mashiur Rahman, alongside Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury [4].

Previously, on July 8, 2025, a Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on Salman F Rahman, former adviser to the Prime Minister, his son, and 12 others, as part of a graft probe related to embezzlement at IFIC Bank. Notably, Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury is also included in this investigation [2][3][5].

The travel bans were motivated by credible information presented by the ACC that the accused might flee the country, risking obstruction of ongoing investigations [1][2].

Separately, on August 5, 2025, a Dhaka court imposed travel bans on Md Abul Kalam Azad, his wife Sadia Saba, former joint secretary of the law ministry Bikash Kumar Saha, and his wife Lipika Bhadra. The ACC has accused these individuals of amassing illegal wealth and money laundering [6].

The ACC has requested the travel bans to prevent the accused from leaving the country while investigations are underway. In the case of Md Abul Kalam Azad, the ACC is currently probing allegations against him, former Cumilla-4 lawmaker [7].

All the accused individuals are from Sylhet and Rangpur-1 constituencies. The reports of these events were published by BSS.

These actions are part of ongoing investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission in Dhaka, demonstrating a commitment to uncovering and addressing corruption in the country.

The travel bans imposed on Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and Mashiur Rahman are indicative of general-news events related to politics and crime-and-justice in Dhaka courts. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) also placed a travel ban on Salman F Rahman, his son, and 12 others, and Md Abul Kalam Azad, his wife Sadia Saba, Bikash Kumar Saha, and his wife Lipika Bhadra, due to allegations of corruption, wealth concealment, extortion, amassing illegal wealth, money laundering, and embezzlement.
