Political party, the Free Democratic Party (FDP), initiates new program following election defeat

The Free Democratic Party (FDP), Germany's liberal political force, is embarking on a journey of renewal following their defeat in the recent federal election. The party is developing a new basic program that aims to address the challenges of the modern world and position the FDP for future political success.

The renewal process, which commenced in the autumn, involves a wide-ranging consultation with both party members and the public. This inclusive approach includes internal consultations, debates, and workshops for party members, while the public is invited to contribute via open forums and digital platforms.

The FDP's focus remains on liberal principles, economic liberty, innovation, and addressing modern challenges such as globalization and digital transformation. These themes are reflected in the party's affiliated Friedrich Naumann Foundation's activities supporting liberal thought internationally.

General Secretary Büttner has stressed the importance of rethinking politics more openly, digitally, and closer to people's everyday lives. As part of this process, a survey of FDP members to gauge their political concerns and expectations is currently underway.

The surveys will help identify key themes and central societal challenges, and artificial intelligence will assist in analyzing the responses received. The FDP plans to involve both members and the public in the development of solutions for these challenges, starting from autumn onwards.

The party's leadership has undergone changes as well. Christian Dürr succeeded Christian Lindner as the party chairman, while Nicole Büttner was elected as the new general secretary. The FDP's goal is to return to success in the next federal election with the new basic program.

The party's renewal process emphasizes the importance of being closer to people's everyday lives, and concrete political solutions for the identified challenges will be developed from autumn onwards. The FDP is inviting everyone interested in liberal politics to participate in shaping the party's future direction.

  1. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) is encouraging insights from both party members and the general public as they formulate their new basic program, aiming to inclusively address challenges of contemporary politics such as policy-and-legislation, globalization, and digital transformation.
  2. Moving forward, the FDP's renewal process promises to be people-centered, allowing for active public engagement in creating solutions for identified societal challenges that resonate with liberal policies and general news topics.
