Political Party in Disarray as PDP Ponders Political Direction – Battle Emerges Within APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused its main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of being in disarray and indecisive, as a result of the PDP's recent decision to open its presidential ticket to all zones, including party city.
In a series of statements, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo criticised the PDP's move, describing it as a sign of weakness rather than inclusion. He argued that the open-ticket policy betrays internal crises, power struggles, and the party's inability to learn from past mistakes.
Oladejo recalled how the PDP's zoning crisis in 2023 triggered defections, rancour, and electoral humiliation. He compared the PDP to a political gambling house where desperate politicians are invited to test their luck.
The APC spokesperson also emphasised that while the opposition flounders, the APC remains focused on governance, reforms, and securing Nigeria's future. He emphasised that Nigerians are more concerned with the APC's reform agenda and delivery of democratic dividends, rather than the internal struggles of the PDP.
In response, the current spokesperson of the PDP in Nigeria, Debo Ologunagba, described the conflicts within his party as "internal struggles that reflect differing visions and approaches." He emphasised the need for unity and dialogue to resolve these disputes.
Oladejo predicted that the PDP has already lost the 2027 election, not at the ballot box, but in the circus tent they now call their party. He compared the larger-than-life image of the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a shadow that has overwhelmed the PDP.
The APC's assertion suggests that the PDP's latest decision reflects confusion within the party, and that the party is still trying to figure out its identity. Oladejo's prediction of the PDP's loss in the 2027 election was a new fact not previously mentioned.
Despite the criticism, the PDP initially zoned its ticket to the South but later left it open to all zones, including party city, according to the APC. This move was described by Oladejo as "a roadmap to nowhere."
The APC's continued focus on governance, reforms, and securing Nigeria's future was emphasised in this paragraph. As both parties prepare for the 2027 elections, it remains to be seen how the PDP will respond to the APC's criticisms and whether they can regain the support of the Nigerian people.
