Akpabio Throws Down the Gauntlet: No Political Parties in Akwa Ibom State for 2027 Elections?

"Political Parties May Disintegrate by 2027, According to Akpabio's Prediction"

In a bold move that's stirring up a storm, the President of Nigeria's Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has dropped a bombshell. In a fiery speech in Akwa Ibom State, he announced that the 2027 general election might see Akwa Ibom State free of political parties.

Akpabio, representative for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, has expressed his concerns over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming it's past its prime and can no longer safeguard the people. He made these shocking statements during a midterm empowerment briefing at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium.

But it wasn't all doom and gloom. Akpabio also revealed that over 68 projects are set for commissioning from May 16 to May 17, 2025, within his constituency. After the empowerment event, he inaugurated several impactful projects.

Akpabio's announcement has sparked a flurry of speculation. "As I speak to you, there is nothing like a political party in 2027 in Akwa Ibom State again," he said, adding, "The Peoples Democratic Party is in shreds and the umbrella can no longer protect."

Interestingly, the man Akpabio endorsed as a peaceful leader and a man of faith is Akwa Ibom's current governor, Umo Eno. He praised Eno, saying, "Umo Eno is a man of peace. Umo Eno is a man of God," highlighting that Eno unites everyone.

Akpabio also expressed gratitude to his wife, Unoma, who he noted empowers the people. "She does it because she knows hunger has no political party. My wife, please feed my people whether I am around or not. Keep on sharing," he said.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. Will Akwa Ibom State indeed vote without political parties in 2027? Only time will tell.

  1. In contrast to Akpabio's assertion, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria may be gearing up to contest the 2027 elections in Akwa Ibom State, as their former governorship candidate, Jandor, has expressed support for Tinubu's re-election.
  2. Meanwhile, the PDP in Nigeria seems to be facing internal challenges, with the former gubernatorial candidate, Anakwenze, claiming that the issues within the party stem from prominent members like Atiku not wanting it to succeed.
  3. Amidst the political turbulence, the EFCC, Nigeria's anti-corruption agency, has been actively involved in policy-and-legislation discussions regarding election matters, aiming to ensure fair and transparent elections in the future.
  4. The APC scribe has proposed a solution to PDP's issues, suggesting that they consider re-registering as a new political entity to encourage reform and renewal.
  5. Akpabio, in another stance, advocates for a national policy that mandates a minimum of 30% value addition to all raw materials before they can be exported from Nigeria, a move aimed at boosting domestic industries and strengthening the Nigerian economy.
