Political Groups Push for Display of Palestinian Flags at Red City Hall
The Left (Die Linke) and Greens (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) parties in Berlin are advocating for the display of the Palestinian flag alongside the Israeli flag at the Red City Hall as a symbol of solidarity and to highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Kerstin Wolter, chairwoman of The Left, believes that raising the Palestinian flag would be a clear signal of solidarity with those suffering from the war. Philmon Ghirmai, state chairman of the Greens, also supports this idea. According to Wolter, the step would be symbolic politics that takes all those affected into account.
Ghirmai argues that it would be wrong for the ruling mayor, Kai Wegner, to refuse to show solidarity with the Palestinian population. Kerstin Wolter, on the other hand, did not join the demand to hang Israeli flags on public buildings, but she supports the symbolic raising of Israeli flags as a sign of solidarity for the release of all hostages from Hamas' captivity.
It's important to note that both parties reject antisemitism and violence, condemning incidents such as the antisemitic slogans and attacks during some protests. Solidarity with Palestine, they emphasize, does not equate to hatred against Jewish communities.
The proposal to raise the Palestinian flag is in response to the brutal terrorist attack by Hamas. However, the ruling mayor has not yet shown support for this move. The situation remains a topic of debate and discussion in Berlin's political circles.
