Political gathering of the AfD party approaching, legal action imminent
In a surprising turn of events, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party's state conference, scheduled for November 9th, has been impacted by a new usage regulation passed by the Hechingen city council in the United States.
The AfD has a signed rental contract with the city of Hechingen for the conference, but the city hall is now reserved for municipal political events only, following a decision by the city administration. This decision, effective from October, means that the AfD state party conference cannot take place in the city hall.
The city council passed the new regulation on Tuesday, banning party events at the federal and state level from October onwards. The Stadthalle Museum, the city hall in question, is a public facility for the cultural, social, and political life of the city, available for associations, societies, private individuals, and local political parties upon request.
This is not the first time the AfD state association has encountered resistance or cancellations in finding a location for a party conference. The party is now considering taking legal action against the municipality to secure the event and clarify the issue in principle.
The conference, expected to have over 400 delegates, will decide on the AfD's program for the upcoming state elections in Baden-Württemberg. The AfD has had several events in the Hechingen city hall before, with no reported problems.
Emil Sänze, the co-state chairman of the AfD, stated that this is a problem of a general nature and that they aim to prevent similar issues for future cases. The AfD party has not yet disclosed the potential outcome of the legal action they are considering.
The AfD state party conference is not mentioned to be affected by the new usage regulation passed by the city council. However, the specifics of the rental contract for the city hall on the day of the conference are not mentioned in the article. The entire state board of the AfD is expected to attend the conference in Hechingen.
