New Political Party on the Horizon: Ex-AfD Chairwoman Announces Plans

Get ready for a shake-up in German politics! Former AfD chairwoman Frauke Petry is gearing up to launch a new party that could potentially hit the scene as early as 2026 state elections. Petry revealed this ambitious move in a recent interview, hinting at the party's anti-statist, libertarian roots.

Petry, 49, shared her vision in a candid interview, explaining, "There's a significant gap in the party system, not between the CDU and AfD, but more so in the lack of an anti-statist, libertarian offering." The yet-to-be-named party's program will champion a renewed cultural connection with the West and a unique, anti-statist proposal as a refreshing alternative to current political landscapes. Petry aims to slash the state's economic influence by half within five years, significantly dropping it from its current 50% share.

A Familiar Exit, A New Beginning

Petry was one of the original founders of AfD with Bernd Lucke and others. However, she parted ways with the party following the 2017 federal election due to internal disagreements. Primarily, she pointed towards the growing influence of the far-right faction led by Thuringia's AfD state chairman Björn Höcke.

After her departure from AfD, Petry served as an independent MP until 2021. During this time, she also established the Blue Party. Unfortunately, the party disbanded at the end of 2019 following unimpressive election results in Saxony and Thuringia.

Now, Petry is optimistic about her new project's chances of success. She announced, "We plan to compete in next year's state elections, starting with Baden-Württemberg. This new party will feature independent citizens and entrepreneurs as candidates—real people who can relate to the 98% of citizens who aren't part of any party."

In essence, Frauke Petry is stepping into the political arena once more with a new party embracing a distinct, pro-business, anti-statist, and culturally Western-focused ideology. This party could potentially serve as a moderate alternative to both the CDU and the AfD, steering towards a less authoritarian state and increased economic liberties.

Mrs Petry, who was once a part of the AfD and later established the Blue Party, is making headlines again with plans for a new political party. This new venture aligns with Mrs Petry's libertarian ideology and aims to champion economic liberalization as an anti-statist alternative to both the CDU and the AfD. Petry's ambitious goal is to reduce the state's economic influence by half within five years and contest the 2026 state elections, starting with Baden-Württemberg, with independent candidates from the world of business and entrepreneurship.
