Political Campaign Kickoff by Marche and Meloni: Airlift Excursion with Tajani and Delicacies from Saied

Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister, made a significant visit to Ancona, Italy, on August 4, 2025. The institutional conference, which took on the atmosphere of an electoral rally, was marked by the extension of the Special Economic Zone (ZES) to the Marche and Umbria regions.

Meloni's announcement of the ZES extension was met with thunderous applause, underscoring the importance of this move in the context of the upcoming regional elections. The ZES, designed to stimulate economic growth and offer opportunities for increased investment and development, is part of a broader government strategy that has delivered "extraordinary results."

Accompanied by key political allies, such as Francesco Acquaroli, the incumbent governor of Marche from her party (Fratelli d’Italia), Meloni's visit served to strengthen the position of current regional leaders aligned with her. The extension of the ZES, unique to the Marche and Umbria, is a clear demonstration of the government's commitment to regional support and economic development.

During her speech, Meloni also announced a decree law, further emphasizing the government's ongoing commitment to the region. The setting of the conference, with a "Government interventions for the Marches" title displayed on a large screen, highlighted the political message of support.

Meloni's visit also included a tour of a construction site for the improvement of the roadway between Belforte and Mozzano, symbolizing the government's focus on infrastructure projects like the Pedemontana del Sud delle Marche.

In a previous visit, Tunisian leader Kais Saied presented Meloni with a gift, and on her helicopter ride from Rome, she received a small cake and some pastries from the Tunisian leader. Meloni hopes to capitalize on the electoral charge from her visit at the polls, which will take place in September in the Marches region.

However, the conference was not without complications. Meloni's announcement of the ZES was "burned" by the speaker, and there is a Sports decree ready to certify a direct clash with the Quirinale. Matteo Salvini, during a video connection, openly asked for votes for the governor. Despite these challenges, Meloni's visit and the ZES extension symbolize an election strategy leveraging economic development tools and high-profile governmental support to consolidate her party’s influence in the Marche and Umbria, crucial battlegrounds in the regional elections.
