Political ascension in NÖ: Three Decades as a County Councillor comes to an End

In a significant turn of events, Anton Kasser, the long-standing mayor of Allhartsberg, has been appointed to the state government. The news comes as Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner announced his appointment as Finance and Hospital State Councilor. Kasser's political career in Allhartsberg spans over two decades. He was first elected as mayor in 1995 and has been a constant figure in the municipality's governance ever since. His political party, the OVP, holds a majority in Allhartsberg, a testament to his influence and popularity. However, Kasser's election as state councilor will mark the end of a 30-year era in his home municipality. To allow for a new election, he will be required to resign from his position as mayor. In the wake of Kasser's resignation, Leopold Kromoser, the OVP deputy mayor, will lead the office in Allhartsberg temporarily. The new election for the local chief must take place within 14 days, as stated by Jürgen Waser, an official from Allhartsberg. Kasser's involvement in politics extends beyond Allhartsberg. He served as the chairman of the Amstetten Municipal Service Association (GDA) and played a crucial role in making the Amstetten district the first district in Austria to be almost completely supplied with broadband in rural areas. Moreover, Kasser has been an NOE MP for a total of 16 years, with a short interruption. His recent role in the NOE Environmental Associations and his political activism in the citizens' initiative 'Decide with' in the early 1990s further demonstrate his commitment to public service. The upcoming Landtag session will see the swearing-in of new cashiers and tellers, as well as the appointment of Lukas Michlmayr as the new ÖVP MP. Michlmayr, the mayor of Haag, will replace Bernhard Ebner in this role. Mario Wuhrer, deputy mayor of Waidhofen an der Ybbs, will take over Kasser's OVP state parliament mandate. Wuhrer, who is also a farmer, farmer in Windhag, insurance agent, and chairman of the Waidhofen /Ybbs district farmers' chamber and chairman of the Ybbstal nature park, brings a diverse set of skills to his new role. Despite repeated attempts, Kasser and Kromoser were not reachable for comment on Friday. The changes in leadership in Allhartsberg and the state government are expected to have far-reaching implications for the region.
