Polish individual apprehended while attempting to traverse Narva river on an inflatable raft, aiming for Russian territories.

A Polish citizen, aged 49, was detained by Estonian authorities on August 5, 2025, for allegedly attempting to join the Russian army and fight in the ongoing conflict against Ukraine.

The arrest took place on the Narva river, a border between Estonia and Russia, where the man was found attempting to cross illegally using an inflatable mattress.

According to reports, the individual had travelled from Serbia with the intention of reaching Russia, and was found to be in possession of items bearing symbols supporting aggression.

The court granted the prosecution's request to hold the detainee in custody for a duration of two months, citing that joining the Russian armed forces poses an indirect threat to the security of Estonia and the European Union. The Internal Security Service emphasized that participating in aggression against Ukraine is a crime, and foreigners supporting Russia's military actions through Estonia will face prosecution.
