Here's a fresh spin on the latest news:

Poland Stops Russian Tennis Player from Entering Country

Things got heated at the border on Friday when the Border Guard blocked a Russian tennis player, 38-year-old Vera Zvonareva, from entering Poland. Zvonareva was attempting to make her way to Warsaw from Serbia using a French visa.

According to Poland's Ministry of Interior and Administration, the Russian was denied entry for reasons of public security protection. It appears the tennis player had wished to participate in the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open tournament, where Iga Świątek would also be competing. Coincidentally, the tournament's organizer is Świątek's father, Tomasz.

After arriving in Warsaw, Zvonareva lingered in the transit zone of Chopin Airport before departing for Podgorica on Saturday at 12:00. Poland's Ministry of Interior and Administration explained its decision by stating that the Russian was on a list of persons whose stay is undesirable on the territory of the Republic of Poland, and her entry was barred for reasons of state security and public security protection.

Poland has been vocal in its opposition to both the Putin and Lukashenko regimes, unwilling to entertain the entry of those who support the actions of Russia and Belarus in the country.
