Lower Saxony Police Union Calls for Budget Prioritization

The German Police Trade Union in Lower Saxony (DPolG) has urged the state government to prioritize investments in the police during upcoming budget negotiations. The demand was made in a document titled "20250612_DPolGNiedersachsen_erneuert_Forderung_zur_Zulagen_erhoehung.pdf" which can be found here.

The union's call to action is aimed at making the police more attractive and competitive compared to the federal government, other states, and the private sector. Patrick Seegers, chairman of DPolG Lower Saxony, emphasized that whatever puts a strain on officers should be adequately compensated, both financially and in terms of time off.

The focus of the demand is on adequate remuneration for shifts at unfavorable times, such as nights and weekends. The increase in the DuZ (allowance for unfavorable shifts) is a key demand, with a flat-rate increase of 5 euros per hour for night shifts and shifts on public holidays.

In addition, the union wants the DuZ to be made dynamic and regularly reviewed. The adjustments to the DuZ are aimed at adequately compensating for the challenging shift times in the police, patrol service, reserve police, and available units.

The goal is to enhance the attractiveness of police work and address the issue of unfavorable shift times for police officers. DPolG Lower Saxony is advocating for sustainable improvements in the working conditions for police officers to address the shortage of skilled workers.

The state government is being urged to contact DPolG Lower Saxony for further inquiries at [email protected]. The official website for DPolG Lower Saxony is https://www.dpolg.org/.
