Police uncover 17 violations in motorway animal transport crackdown
Police conducted targeted vehicle inspections on the A2 and A7 motorways on February 11, 2026. The operation concentrated on animal transports and revealed numerous violations. Officers highlighted the inspections' importance for road safety and animal welfare.
The operation commenced at 8:00 AM and continued into the afternoon, covering peak commuting hours. Inspections took place on the A2 between Bad Nenndorf and Garbsen, then from 10:00 AM on the A7 between Großburgwedel and Mellendorf.
Officers scrutinized 38 vehicles, including 28 animal transports. They discovered 17 violations in total. Five of these involved animal transport regulations, such as cramped spaces or unclean transport surfaces. Another five related to missing or improper digital tachograph use. The remaining seven breached general road traffic rules.
Authorities initiated administrative proceedings for each offence. They emphasized that unannounced checks help detect misconduct early and enforce compliance. The operation also aimed to enhance coordination between agencies.
The inspections resulted in 17 recorded violations across 38 vehicles. All cases now face administrative action. Police reiterated that such operations remain crucial for maintaining road safety and protecting animal welfare.
