Agitating Hamburg: A Spectacular Weekend of Football, Demonstrations, and Celebrations! 🎈🏆🚴‍♂️🚐✊

Police Heavy Presence for Harbor Birthday Celebration and HSV Game Event - Police respond to disturbance during Port's birthday celebration and HSV's football game

Gear up for an action-packed weekend in Hamburg as the city swarms with a thrilling blend of football, demonstrations, and concerts!

The Harbour Birthday—the last HSV home game of the season—and a jam-packed demonstration scene mean a whopping challenge for Hamburg police this weekend. "We're gearing up with a suitable force to deal with it," says the police spokesperson.

With over a million eagerattendees expected from Friday onwards, the city is buzzing with excitement! Several streets have been temporarily closed, including areas between the Elbphilharmonie and the fish market, in preparation for the grand event.

HSV Fans' Party Time! 💥🎉

On Saturday (8:30 PM), the HSV could clinch its promotion, thanks to a win against SSV Ulm! If successful, the jubilant celebrations wouldn't just be confined to the Volksparkstadion. Elsewhere, the neighboring Barclays Arena will also host a pulsating concert by Schlager king Roland Kaiser (72).

Cyclists and the AfD on Parade 🚴‍♂️✊

About 500 cyclists plan to participate in a family-friendly demonstration, led by the General German Bicycle Club and other organizations, from the U-Bahnhof Messehallen to the eastern district of Hammerbrook on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, The Hamburg Alliance Against the Right calls for a mass demonstration to urge a ban on the AfD. Approximately 1,000 protesters are expected to rally from the Reeperbahn to the town hall. The FC St. Pauli enthusiasts might also embrace another reason to celebrate on Sunday evening – in their away game against Eintracht Frankfurt (5:30 PM), they bid for their continued presence in the Bundesliga. Lastly, the weekend festivities conclude with a departure parade at 6:00 PM.

In addition to regular forces, the riot police and parts of the so-called alarm unit will be on standby to guarantee the security of all events. As for the exact number of forces mobilized, the authorities prefer to keep that information confidential.

Alas, specific details regarding the precautions against potential attacks, like those experienced at the Magdeburg Christmas market (December 20) or the Munich trade union demonstration (February 13), remain undisclosed as of now. However, the police spokesperson promises, "In collaboration with organizers, we’ll ensure the city’s people remain safe and at peace."

A weapons ban applies for the Harbour Birthday and across the entire public transport system in Hamburg. Private drones are also not permitted to fly over the event area. Visitors are advised to use the S- and U-bahn as their preferred mode of transportation in the Hamburg city area.

  1. The community policy and employment policy will be tested this weekend as the Hamburg police prepare for the challenging task of managing the Harbour Birthday and demonstrations.
  2. The Elbphilharmonie and the fish market areas are among those temporarily closed in preparation for the upcoming events this weekend.
  3. On this exceptional weekend, football fans will not only cheer for HSV at the Volksparkstadion but also join Roland Kaiser's pulsating concert at the Barclays Arena.
  4. Aside from the football and concert scenes, Hamburg will witness two demonstrations: cyclists' march from U-Bahnhof Messehallen to Hammerbrook on Saturday and the AfD ban protest from the Reeperbahn to the town hall on Sunday.
